Do Grooms Really Need a Cake?

When it comes to weddings, the focus is usually on the bride. People notice what she’s wearing, who her bridesmaid or maid of honor will be, to the wedding accessories that she’ll have on. However, a sometimes slightly overlooked part of the ceremony, but equally important would be the groom and his needs. People often think that it’s “okay” to not focus on the groom so much since guys in general are pretty “low maintenance.” If you think like this as well, then you better start thinking again. Most grooms do like to prep up for their big day. They want to be able to pick out that perfect tux along with those elegant looking engraved silver plated cufflinks. Moreover, some grooms even insist in having their own groom cake. Now, this might seem foreign to some people, but it’s a pretty popular tradition and has its roots in the South.

Grooms usually receive this cake from the bride and it is meant as a nod to anything “masculine.” Thus, you often see groom cakes with whimsical manly designs that are not only beautiful to look at, but also quite tasty. It can also simply reflect the hobbies or interests of the groom. In a wedding, it can give your guest an alternative when it comes to the choice of cake or it can simply be served as dessert. It’s really up to the couple. It may seem like an unnecessary expense, but it’s actually a great present as a bride to your husband.
