Gifting a Soon To Be Married Gay Couple
A friend of mine is attending her very first commitment shower for same sex couples. It’s essentially a bridal shower intended for the wedding of two of her female friends. She’s having a hard time choosing what to give them. So I suggested she get them this square glass vase with photo frame to complement the batches of photos she is going to take of them in their actual wedding. She is going to be their photographer.
The very idea of what to give gay couples was not a dilemma before, simply because gay couples do not get married. But as times have changed, society has to make a few adjustments. Today, we also have to consider what politically correct gifts should we give to gay partners.
Although, my personal take is? These people aren’t any different than heterosexuals getting married, so why treat them extra special or any different? As with any types of gift-giving, it’s always the thought that counts. So whether or not you get the couple a traditional gift or a hers and hers (his and his) type of presents, it’s the gesture that should really matter. It’s not about the gender or the preference, is what I think.
