Knife Gifts: Good Or Bad Karma?
One of the most common groomsmen gift include pocket knives. You can find these in most gift giving selections for the male wedding entourage. The fact that it is very convenient makes it popular. Every man, thus a groomsman, will have some use for the pocket knives one way or another. Engraving it with their names and the date of the wedding would make the gift even more personal.
But in some customs and tradition, giving knives as gifts actually have some derivative meaning that may make knives totally not a great gift idea. Basically, something that “cuts” or “slices” doesn’t promote good vibrations or karma.
In Greece for example, it is believed to be a bad omen when someone gives knives as gift for it would indicate the severance of that relationship (between the giver and the receiver). To break this negativity, if one does receive knives as presents, he or she must in turn give back a coin to the one who gave it, to reverse the possible side effects.
Some cultures, however, believe that knives as gifts is actually symbolic of protection and of being one’s guard and thus they welcome this gesture.
The bottom line I guess all depends on whether or not how strong your faith is towards the one who is giving this gift to you. Do you consider each other lifelong friends and will you work out any problems that come between your relationship, if ever?
